The Foreign Language Institute's 3 Main Districts:

1The Kinki District: (Osaka and surrounding areas)

Our home district. ECC's first school was established in Sumiyoshi, Osaka, in 1962. ECC's current headquarters is in the ECC Honsha building, in Higashi-temma, Osaka. The Kinki district is comprised of Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo (Kobe), Nara and Wakayama prefectures, with about 60 schools and close to 250 of our instructors located here. Kinki offers residents all of the conveniences of urban life with many world-famous sites nearby.

2The Chubu District: (Nagoya and surrounding areas)

Nagoya, in Aichi prefecture, is situated between Osaka and Tokyo. The region is therefore known as Chubu, or the 'center section'. Chubu is famous for many things, including Nagoya castle, miso-flavored udon (noodles) and katsu (fried pork cutlets), and, of course, it is the home of Toyota. Nagoya is a large city with an extensive urban area and a convenient rail system. Within an hour of the city, depending on which direction you go you can find mountains, rivers or the Pacific ocean. The Chubu district is comprised of Aichi, Gifu and Mie prefectures, with about 40 schools and more than 100 of our instructors located here.

3The Kanto District: (Tokyo and surrounding areas)

Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is an enormous urban area situated on the Kanto plain. The metro area is comprised of the 23 wards of Tokyo and extends into the neighboring prefectures of Saitama, Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures. The Kanto district, mirroring the city itself, has schools located in all of the aforementioned prefectures, with almost 60 schools and around 150 of our instructors located here. Many people are drawn to Tokyo's world famous sites, parks, shopping districts and museums.

The Foreign Language Institute's Outlying Schools:

Some of our instructors come to Japan in search of a more 'authentic' taste of Japan, and ECC does have a number of schools in small and medium-size cities in Southern and Central regions of the country, and Northern areas of the Kanto region. For the most part, these schools are somewhat independent, with the assigned instructors working at one school, 5 days per week.

These schools have a relatively small staff, and openings are rare; however, for those wanting to make more personal connections with their Japanese neighbors, these schools offer many benefits. In these areas, living costs, on average, tend to be lower, and ECC arranged housing is located close to work, which means reduced travel time. Furthermore, the residents of these locations are generally more likely to take a real interest in you and your country of origin.
