A bachelor's degree in any discipline as well as 12 years of formal education conducted in English are the minimum requirements. Overseas living experience and/or some form of teaching/training experience are welcomed, although not necessary. Knowledge of the Japanese language is not a requirement.
We are looking for positive, energetic team players that are ready for a cultural adventure.
ECC's hiring is ongoing, so you can apply anytime for positions typically beginning throughout the year. If you are applying from overseas, it usually takes two to three months for the visa to be processed.
A contract can begin anytime, yet all contracts are aligned to finish with our academic year on March 31st. There will be an option to renew for another year from April 1st based on mutual agreement.
ECC expects a minimum 12-month commitment from all teachers.
It is if you don't have the inside scoop. However, the past number of years have brought a real 'English Instructor' community of information and services which will put you in the know and make things a lot easier and cheaper. Furthermore, you will be drawing a salary which should allow you to indulge a little and still save.
That depends on your living style and habits so it is better to give a range using the base salary (not considering any extra work). ECC teachers typically save anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 yen per month. So over the course of a contract it can easily add up to a substantial amount - or to the end of your credit card or student loans. However, please understand that while the salary is generous, it is unlikely to be enough to support a family in Japan comfortably.
Japanese is not used in the classroom at ECC. Outside ECC, Japanese can be useful in your daily interactions, although many people get by with no Japanese language ability. You are welcome to study before coming to Japan, although it is not expected.
